What is ISDN? ISDN is short for Integrated Services Digital Network. It is a telephone line that provides a high speed, high capacity, and high quality form of voice, data, and video communication. An ISDN line actually provides two separate channels capable of data transmission speeds of up to 64Kbps each. So now, you can access the Internet at speeds even higher than the popular 56K modems, and place a telephone call at the same time!
Do you have too much work to do and not enough time to do it? Are you are looking for an efficient way to experience everything the Internet has to offer? Or, do you just want serious, fast Internet connectivity? ISDN will add more value to your home or office through better, faster communications.
A single ISDN channel is capable of access speeds up to 64Kbps, which is more than 20% faster than the 56K modems, and more than twice as fast as the standard 28.8 Kbps modems. BellSouth® Internet Service provides both ISDN channels for combined access speeds of up to 128Kbps, in select locations. Sending and receiving data at these increased speeds helps makes your Internet experience more productive and enjoyable than ever.
ISDN has two communication channels, so you can perform two communication tasks at the same time. For example, you can download a data file at the same time you receive a telephone call or a fax without disrupting your download. As part of our ongoing commitment to our customers, we are continually improving and upgrading facilities and services to provide more and better choices for our members. BellSouth® Internet Service provides ISDN capabilities in the following cities:

It allows a computer to communicate with the outside world over a phone line, specifically an ISDN phone line. The ISDN modem transmits digital information from the computer over the ISDN line to the outside world, and receives digital information over the ISDN line from the outside world. An ISDN modem is installed and configured for your computer much like an analog modem. ISDN modems typically have additional functionality that allow the user to connect and utilize additional devices (phones, fax machines) using the same ISDN line.
